Press realease and students' work for the 6th Educational Symposium of Phycology

 

Starring young and old students, from kindergarten to high school, in collaboration with their teachers, the work of the "6th Educational Symposium of Phycology" was completed, which, in order to ensure "Public Health" was carried out online.

That is, all the participating groups submitted their work to the Organizing Committee within the stipulated deadlines in the form of either a videotaped presentation at their school (lasting no more than 10 minutes) or in the form of PowerPoint.


The Symposium was attended by eleven (11) groups, from nine (9) different schools and art workshops, which presented original and innovative works on the unknown to the general public algae and the aquatic environment of the region and the Mediterranean Sea, in general, following:

4. Secondary school of Η.Τ. Of the Transfiguration of the Savior of Vrilissia, Title: A writing from algae, Educator in charge: Maria Tsoukalas
5. 2nd grade of the Secondary School of Art of Peristeri, Title: The garden with the algae (supplementary), Educators in charge: Klio Bolieraki, Ismini Bonatsou
6. High School of Agios Stefanos, Title: Phycomarathon on Lake Marathon, Educator in charge: Eleni I. Kriemadi
7. 2nd grade of the High School of Art of Peristeri, Title: A walk in the garden of my imagination, Educator in charge: Mandy Albani
8. Eleni Pechlivani Workshop, Title: The wonderful world of Posidonia, Artistic Director: Eleni Pechlivani
9. Art workshop "Triliza", Children's Department, Title: Save the algae, Artistic Director: Vasiliki Pistikou
10. Social Cooperative Enterprise "Anthea", Title: Paintings on canvas, Visual Artist: Nadia Konstantopoulou
11. "Triliza" Art Workshop, Adolescent Department, Title: Parallel worlds, Visual Artist: Vasiliki Pistikou

 

After the completion of the submission of all works, the works were sent to all members of the OC to evaluate the best in terms of originality of the topic, best presentation and the scientific and educational approach.

 

Awards were given to the following schools and art workshops:
1. The award for "educational and scientific approach" is given to two teams, to the High School of Agios Stefanos, Educator in charge: Eleni I. Kriemadi and to the S.V.E.T.L. Group of Agios Nikolaos, Crete, 2nd High School of Agioi Anargyroi, Athens, Educators in charge: Georgios Mavroidis, Sofia Michou.
2. The award for "best presentation" is given to two teams, to the 2nd grade of the Secondary School of Art of Peristeri, Educators in charge: Klio Bolieraki, Ismini Bonatsou and to the Primary School of Temeni, Aigialeia, Educator in charge: Christina Kokoti.
3. The award for "originality of subject"is given to two teams, to the 2nd grade of the High School of Art of Peristeri, Educator in charge: Mandy Albani and to the Secondary school of Η.Τ. Of the Transfiguration of the Savior of Vrilissia, Educator in charge: Maria Tsoukalas.

 

A draw was held for two underwater cameras, offered by the Company "ION plus" and the winners are the Eleni Pechlivani Workshop and the S.V.E.T.L. Group of Agios Nikolaos, Crete, 2nd High School of Agioi Anargyroi, Athens team.

 

All participants were given Certificates of Participation, the participating schools were awarded an Honorary Distinction, while the co-organizers were given a Commendation, all offered by the Hellenic Phycological Society.

 

The Symposium was organized by the Hellenic Phycological Society (HELPS, www.phycology.gr) in collaboration with the Herakleidon Museum, under the auspices of the Ministry of National Education and Religions, in the context of the exhibition entitled "Salty fields", which was curated by Ms. Nina Fragopoulou, Dr. of Marine Biology.

 

The main goal of the Symposium was to acquaint students with the wonderful world of algae, their importance to humans, their value and role in the environment. The ultimate goal is to direct children's attention to new horizons of knowledge. Thus, education becomes more interesting, it becomes a game that increases the skills, creativity and familiarity of students with the environment, while contributing to progress of the country with innovative actions.
